On 15th December, 1914, the 2nd Essex battalion of 12 Brigade, 4th Division moved into trenches near Le Touquet, a small hamlet near Ploegsteert, in Belgium. On 17th December, the day on which Walter Taylor was killed, there was heavy artillery fire directed on the nearby village of Messines which was probably responsible for the three men killed and the two wounded. |
